Think about dates!

This is one of the important ones! What date are you thinking of getting married? Is your heart set on having your special day in the spring or summer? Maybe fall or winter? Perhaps you would love your wedding to occur during a meaningful date? Whichever you decide, it’s a good idea to start discussing this and try and lock something in as soon as possible because dates go fast!

Tell close family and friends.

How exciting is this? Now you both get to tell your nearest and dearest your fantastic news! How are you going to do it? The best way is in person. Sit them down in a conversation and show off your beautiful new sparkly ring. The important thing is, make sure you tell the people who matter first before letting the rest of the world know. Check out our article here for some great ideas on announcing your engagement.

Start organizing an engagement party.

Speaking of the rest of the world, will you have an engagement party to celebrate? If so, now is the time to get planning! Who will you be inviting to the party? How many people? Will it be a big event or just a smaller one with close friends and family? Are you considering not even having a party at all and just focusing on the wedding? Either way, the decision is yours.

Get your ring valued and insured!

We are not trying to be negative here, but unfortunately, things do happen, and if you can protect the things that mean the most to you, you absolutely should. And so, we recommend that you get your beautiful new engagement ring valued and insured. It is so easy to misplace your ring, especially if you’re not used to wearing it yet.

Long or short engagement?

A good thing to consider is that a serious discussion needs to be had between you and your significant other regarding how long you would like your engagement. A lot of factors come into this, especially things like saving up for your wedding. Will you need a long time for this? If so, a more prolonged engagement may be the solution. Maybe, you want to be settled in your own home before you get married and need the extra time to focus on that. Alternatively, you may want to have a short engagement and dive straight into married life as soon as possible.

Talk about budgets!

Money, money, money. The topic we all love to hate. Yet, it must be discussed. What kind of budget are you both thinking of for the wedding? It’s another serious topic, a crucial one. You need to both be able to agree on a reasonable budget for your big day. So now is the time to think about what you both want for your wedding. Are you both thinking of a big wedding or a small one? Are you thinking of inviting a lot of guests? What about entertainment? Food? Venue? These are all things to consider when looking at setting a budget for your big day.

Celebrate together!

We believe that this is an essential thing that you can do once you get engaged. Take some time out and be in that moment together to celebrate, without anything or anyone else involved, just you two. Nu Bride recommends “NOT to start planning straight away. Being newly engaged is a lovely, special time, and it’s nice to enjoy it for a while before the planning phase kicks in. The wedding planning can wait. Just enjoy each other and this new stage of your life.” We couldn’t agree more with this, after all, it’s a celebration of the love between you both.
